Actor/Model & FATHER to Madeleine “Maddie” Beasley.Where are you from and where do you live now?Memphis, TN. I’ve called LA home for 14 years, but am sprinkling some time in Austin, TX now.How has fatherhood changed you?Being a father has been the catalyst for the biggest change of my entire life. The love I have for my daughter has taught me, in turn, the love I should have for myself, and then, the love I should have for others. The ability to love unconditionally has brought me closer to my ideals of who I want to be.What’s your favorite thing about being a Dad?The laughter. The fantasy of pretend. Excuses to eat sugary cereal and watch cartoons. I love the honor of getting to shape a person who I believe can and will change the world. I love hearing what my daughter has to say, listening to her sweet voice.Describe your style.Hipster redneck.Has becoming a Dad changed your style? How?I think when I became a father and went through the realization of self-love, that transitioned into a feeling that I could be “myself.” That changed my style. Also, it’s like the element of “pretend” has overflowed into my real world, and has allowed me to be “funkier/edgier” than I was before. On a Friday night out, we might find you in ____________.Well, if my daughter is with her mother, you’d find me in some cut up denim, flannel around my waist, sleeveless t-shirt, and on a really crazy night, dare i say, a crop top. I always wear a baseball cap. chucks, docs, or berks. If my lil one is with me, I’ll prob have the same thing on, unless we are having cozy movie night, in which case I’m wearing a tank and sweats. On a Sunday afternoon, we might find you in ____________. Cowboy boots, black jeans, sleeveless T, bandana, and a baseball cap.Where does your fashion inspiration come from?I think elements of the 90’s have stuck with me because my brother was a teen during the heart of 90’s rock (Phish, Grateful Dead, Nirvana), and I looked up to him. Queer culture is a big influence. Meaning, equality, the blend of masculine and feminine… girls with fire trucks and boys in pink. I celebrate that my daughter is an animal loving tomboy princess… and that has in turned shaped the way I see myself and the kind of example I want to set for her. I’m always looking to women and men for inspiration.Anyone who turns their International Scout into a full-on Mystery Machine for their kid is aces in our book. Keep showing that little girl that she can do & be ANYTHING she wants to be. We know you will buddy!!

Rad Dad Wednesday V16

Evan Hart, Writer/Director/Actor and FATHER to three girls - Charley, Stella, & Dylan

Where are you from and where do you live now?
I was born in Los Angeles, but grew up in the Midwest. Something like this: L.A. / Omaha / St. Louis / NYC / L.A. I now live in Studio City with my ladies.
How has fatherhood changed your style?
It’s definitely aged me. It’s made me more tired and at the same time, given me more energy. Honestly watching my girls (my daughter and two step daughters) grow up gives me oxygen for the next fifty years. It’s made me more patient, more present and more focused. It’s also salt peppered the hell outta my beard.

What’s your favorite thing about being a Dad?

No way I can have just ‘one’ favorite thing. Watching them grow each day with a new discovery is one of the most rewarding things. My brother and I grew up without our father; we had an active step-grandfather who filled the role but it was a different generation and a very different tone of parenting. Now, finally getting to put on those shoes has given me the greatest appetite for my own journey in parenthood. I love being there for them. Knowing they can’t be prepared for every little thing is hard, but it reinforces my obligation to help get them there… They’re all gorgeous girls but when they’re older I’ll be telling them – nothing is more attractive than intelligence.

Describe your style.
Cool, casual, simple and mood-dependent. I’m not much of a uniform guy, so hopefully one piece of my wardrobe reflects something about who I am… Or at least it doesn’t look terrible. If I am on a new pair of jeans, a new shirt or new treads, then it/they get worn several days in a row. Has becoming a Dad changed your style? How? I suppose a bit. It’s made me feel more comfortable in just about anything.. I care less in some ways and more in others. Now I actually look forward to getting dressed up and looking sharp… I love my kids and love watching them experience life through their own unique prisms – always reflecting something new. But at the end of the day I can still tell them what to do and because of that I feel an ultimate style.
On a Friday night out, we might find you in______?
Out on Friday night? Amazing! If that’s the case I’ll be in something comfortable. Maybe a snug flannel (Sandro or Visvim) some comfy jeans (props to my John Elliot + co and Acne denim) and either some Jcrew Macalister or Chuck Taylor high-tops. If the L.A. weather allows for it, I’m a fan of the black leather jacket or zip up (Marc Jacobs) hoodie. I listed the brands because you asked for it!

On a Sunday afternoon, we might find you in______?

Something even more comfortable. T-shirt, some khakis and vans. I try not to wear denim or anything too restricting on the weekend. We have a pool so a bathing costume is always near by. Sunday is about relaxing. It starts with a trip to the farmers market, maybe a kids party and definitely some lounging by the pool or too close to the television. I change clothes more on Sunday than any other day. Is that weird? Hmm.
Where does your fashion inspiration come from?
Honestly I have no idea where it comes from. My awesome lady Charlotte, on top of already being English, has incredible style. Anything she puts on she looks good in. So I just pretend I’m the same… While living in Manhattan I worked in fashion at Marc Jacobs. I suppose I inadvertently picked up a few pointers. The streets of NY are an easy place to pluck a few and find your style. I think if you come to Los Angeles without any style you could be in trouble. But if you stay long enough maybe you can find some… In truth, the best style is being a dad.
And this from Evan's bro, Taylor Hart.
"Unlike our upbringing... we did’t have a father around, so he learned first hand that showing up and being involved makes you a start to be a good parent. He always has time for his daughter, Charley, and his other two Stella and Dylan. He teaches/shows the girls that they can do and achieve anything if they strive for that and he makes them be accountable. treating your kids like little humans but giving them more slack than we get as adults. its a nice line to draw. He has great fashion style...like both of us, especially for a writer. He’s a pain in the ass brother though, and he’s a Cardinals fan, so those are two strikes." ;))
Evan and Taylor's father passed away a few days ago, so we would like to offer our condolences, thoughts and prayers to them and their family.

Billy Hume, Marketing Manager for Volcom and Father to William James Hume (10 months)

Where are you from and where do you live now?
I’m originally from North Carolina. I now reside in New Jersey, via Venice, via a few other places before.
How has fatherhood changed you?
It’s definitely changed how I manage my time. And more importantly it’s changed my view on what matters most in this lifetime. It’s funny how things like the birth of a child will instantly make the world look like a different place than anything you’ve seen before. It’s great!

What’s your favorite thing about being a Dad?

Oh man, so many things. I guess it would have to be seeing the world through my son’s eyes. He’s only 10 months, so everything is new and interesting, and everyday he’s learning new things. Even watching him discover that he can use his hands to pick things up was the greatest thing ever to me. I imagine the list of favorite’s will continue to grow.
Describe your style.
I’m a fucking Pirate. No really though, I don’t even know? I guess I would have to say the surf and skateboarding culture really shaped my style. I’ve been in that world my whole life, so it’s really defined how I dress and what I do. And I’m a big fan of simplicity in dress.
Has becoming a Dad changed your style? How?
Not really. That may change as my son get’s older and starts being around peers, teachers, coaches, etc. I can’t look like a homeless guy when I’m showing up for my son’s soccer games, or whatever activities he chooses!
On a Friday night out, we might find you in?
A Dive Bar, wearing Chinos, Vans, and a zip sweatshirt with a Carhart Vest on top. Seems to be what I’ve been sporting as of lately with Fall upon us. Or maybe I would be with the wife sipping a fancy Martini down the road at 709, wearing denim, a flannel, and boots. Or at a bar in the Caribbean… barefoot, with cutoff corduroy shorts, and a stained t-shirt. Maybe I could be the A.D.D. chameleon of style. On a Sunday afternoon, we might find you in?
The ocean, wearing just a pair of boardshorts. If you surf, why wouldn’t you want to spend your Sunday afternoons this way! Of course afterwards, I would love to come in and hang out with my wife and son on the beach while sipping a cold beverage.
Where does your fashion inspiration come from?
I’d have to say predominately the surfing and skateboarding culture. But I’d have to credit my youth in North Carolina for the minimalist approach. Nothing too tacky, nothing too branded. Simple, functional, and comfortable!
Well Roger Dodger, we sure miss you and the Mrs. out here in Cali but it looks like you guys are getting it all figured out over there! Keep up the good work my dude and STAY RAD!!

Rory Lovett, Bar Owner/Operator and Rad Dad to Avery (3) June (1)

Where are you from and where do you live now?
Originally from Washington, DC now living in Santa Monica
How has fatherhood changed you?
Fatherhood has only changed me for the better and has made me less selfish and more selfless.
What’s your favorite thing about being a Dad?
My favorite thing about fatherhood is laughing uncontrollably with all 3 of my girls.
Describe your style.
My style is pretty much inspired by what music I'm currently into or listening to, it gives me a wide scope. I can do ripped jeans and chucks if I'm going through a ramones phase or a fedora and a vest if it's a tom waits kind of day.
Has becoming a Dad changed your style? How?
I've toned down substantially the amount of bread I spend on shoes for myself, but my kids kicks are always on point.
On a Friday night out, we might find you in ____________.
Denim jacket w a black tee and black leather boots - I'd be at work and this is my go to, things can get messy at a bar and I'll likely have to repair something.
On a Sunday afternoon, we might find you in ____________.
Cut off jeans, Toms and a ratty comfy tee, it's my day with the girls and we are always up to something fun and we cherish our comfort.
Where does your fashion inspiration come from?
My fashion preferences come from all the things I love , music, sports, tattoos, I try to pick up pieces of my favorites from these walks of life and incorporate into my own blend of it, I'll do a Lebron jersey w a denim jacket, a fedora, chucks and cut off sweats, part of fashion is not giving a shit, you'll throw up some air balls but you'll stroke a lot of 3s too.
And speaking of basketball and the finals starting tomorrow, I can bet that you get Susie, Avery, and Junebug's uninimous MVP nod. Keep up the good work Broseph!!

Sam Cervantes, Director of Retail Operations at 4Wheel Parts & Father to Chase (3) and Maverick (15 mos.)

Where are you from and where do you live now?
I was born in Pasadena, Ca. all the way back in 1977. Was raised in Burbank, Ca. & now reside in Redondo Beach. I’m a So Cal boy to the fullest!
How has fatherhood Changed you?
In more ways than I know. I want to be a better man now that I have kids. I even work harder because I want to lead by example & be a role model to my kids that hard work is admirable I enjoy others people's kids. I have more patience now than I ever had before as well.
What’s your favorite thing about being a Dad?
When I was only 7 years old…my dad passed away so I didn’t get to experience growing up with a dad, so raising my kids allows me to experience it. I get to do things that I never did…such as playing ball with my kids. I try to play ball with them every day. I literally try to do everything with them that I never got to experience. It’s awesome!
Describe your style.
Very relaxed. I’m business casual during the week and I suppose you could call it a So Cal style on the weekends. Jeans/short and a T-shirt and I'm usually wearing a hat
Has becoming a dad changed your style? How?
Not really so much…but I usually have some type of milk or slobber on my right shoulder because of them more now.
On a Friday night out, we might find you in _______.
On Friday night you will find me in jeans and a t-shirt. Definitely out with the kids for dinner. Will more than likely be having a cold beer and more than likely a taco.
On a Sunday afternoon we might find you in _______.
On Sunday afternoon more than likely I will be in some board shorts and flip flops. I go to the beach often, so it’s no surprise that sand and tennis shoes don’t mix
Where does your fashion inspiration come from?
The biggest thing for me is comfort. I’m definitely not the most fashionable kid on the block. Like I said…I’m a jeans a t-shirt kind of guy.
He may just be a jeans and t-shirt guy but he makes that shit look good!! Keep it up Samuel Miguel!!

Victor Antonio Ross II, Model/Actor/Poet/Artist & Father to River Aydn Sullivan-Ross

Where are you from and where do you live now?
Military family, Born in Monterey California, lived in Germany 2 years and then was raised in Missouri. A little town an hour east of Kansas City. Did I really say raised like I was a farm animal or a flower.
How has fatherhood changed you?
I would like to think that it hasn’t changed me, that I was always meant to be a father and now here I am. But the reality is that it's all about the evolution. That this job shifts its importance of roles. I’m no longer in the changing diapers and nurturing everything faze. Now I see the fruit of all the patience and work. Teaching him his letters and how to read and get along with others and share. Now I get to witness how well he is doing in school on his own and being his own independent person. My job isn’t to nurture certain aspects anymore, now I get to support and applaud him and maneuver and help shape and guide the person he wants to be. I get to shift his moods and make him laugh. Help him maneuver feelings and emotions he doesn’t know how to handle just yet. Just listen to all the cray things he says out of his mouth. This goofball didn’t fall far from the nut tree.I cuss less and listen more.
What’s your favorite thing about being a Dad?
I have a constant buddy, I get to relive firsts. I get to be a part of his world. I tell him all the time I feel privileged that I get to be his Dad. I’m fortunate enough to be one of the people in his world that introduces him to lessons on how to navigate this place. I have somebody, my own son, to help guide into this world. I get to take what I learned and also recognize what didn’t work from how my parents parented and morph all of that plus what I have gained from my experiences and from that do my absolute best to guide him. I always give him options so he has the power to choose and I also always let him know his actions have a rippling effect. Ultimately I let him know he can be, act and operate how ever he wants in this world . . . just don’t be an asshole, the world already has too many of those, be a gentleman, those are rare.
Describe your style.
Funky, cool, fresh, modern classic, simple with flare, daring, not caring what anybody thinks.
Has becoming a Dad changed your style? How?
I used to be a lot more flashy. I was 20 when I had my boy, so I was still figuring out who the hell I was.
On a Friday night out, we might find you in ____________.
Simple Tee probably with holes in them, or denim button down with black skinny slacks or denim, black blazer, definitely my green fedora. Handkerchief in back right pocket, black shoes or boat shoes.
P.S. this would be the same outfit I’ve been wearing since Tuesday. I shower !!! . . . I just put the same gear on.
On a Sunday afternoon, we might find you in ____________.
Friday’s outfit, maybe have shifted to drop crotch pants. OR a speedo at the beach playing volleyball, beach hat.
Where does your fashion inspiration come from?
I grew up in a rural town in Missouri as a biracial kid, so I had Lenny Kravitz and Prince and James Brown, to check out their styles and imitate what I saw. I have also been a model since I was 15 and traveled and worked with a lot of designers and clients over the years from that experience I’ve just picked ideas and styles from what I’ve seen.

Tyler, TX ----> Arizona ----> Hermosa Beach, CA
How has fatherhood changed you?
Fatherhood has most definitely given me a greater sense of purpose and understanding what is truly important in life.
What’s your favorite thing about being a Dad?
Watching Christian experience life and seeing him light up when we learns something new or does something he knows makes me and his Mom proud! I can't wait to see the dynamic between him and his little sister Tyler unfold!
Describe your style.
My style? Really bro? I wears chinos and button ups during the week and shorts and a tee-shirt on the weekends. I make sure everything fits well and that it doesn't have baby food on it and I am good to go!
Has becoming a Dad changed your style? How?
No real change in my style since becoming a Dad, I like to keep it simple.
On a Friday night out, we might find you in ____________.
Chinos and a button up because there is a 100% chance we went to happy hour after work so we could get Christian home by bedtime.
On a Sunday afternoon, we might find you in ____________.
Depends on if I am checking off items on my "honey-do" list around the house in which case I'd be in my basketball shorts that I've had since college and a cutoff tee shirt... otherwise I'd be in shorts, a tee shirt and Rainbows.
Where does your fashion inspiration come from?
My fashion inspiration comes from my wife since she does the majority of the shopping for me and I grab whatever tee shirt is on the top of the pile.
Lucky for us a lot of times the one on the top of the pile is a herald.hill tee and you wear'em well brother! Good luck with that newest addition and get some rest!!
